About Us
Oseh Shalom is a place to explore or discover Judaism in a warm supportive environment. We are also about making lifelong friendships, helping fellow members and the world at large, and just having fun. Oh, and eating. You’ll find lots of opportunities to enjoy a nosh or meal while talking, interrupting, learning and playing with people who will welcome you, whoever you are and whatever makes up your family. We have members with special needs such as Autism, ADHD or mobility issues. We warmly welcome the LBGTQ community and offer assisted listening devices and ASL services once a month, for festivals and other events. We have handicapped parking and a ramp at our front door. Our bima can be made more accessible with a ramp on request.
Oseh Shalom is a vibrant Reconstructionist synagogue dedicated to equal treatment, hearing each member’s voice and creating a caring community. We strive to create a warm, friendly atmosphere for celebrating Jewish life through learning, prayer and social action. We are committed to fostering a Jewish spiritual experience that is creative yet rooted in tradition. Please join us and help us build a thriving Jewish community.
Members come to explore and expand what Judaism means in today’s world. Oseh Shalom is a place to find quiet, peace and growth in an increasingly noisy, complex world. It is a place to slow down and make connections with people who are working to make the world better by connecting with each other, their local community and the world.
Our members come from diverse backgrounds. Many members grew up in Reform and Conservative Jewish settings, while others grew up in Orthodox and secular Jewish homes. We welcome converts and those seeking faith as well as non-Jewish spouses and partners. Oseh congregants live in Howard, Montgomery, Anne Arundel, Prince George counties and beyond. Parents who are searching for a Hebrew School for their children will find a warm, engaging and inclusive environment that welcomes all children regardless of special needs.
We are a proud part of Reconstructing Judaism, the parent organization of the Reconstructionist movement. Check out their website for a trove of resource to enhance your personal and family growth: Hashivenu Podcast, Learning Networks, Camp Havaya and much more.
